Plano Gutter Pros: Questions and Answers

How the referral works, how gutter jobs are sized and priced, and what this site will not claim.

Twelve Answers

Who shows up at my house?

An independent gutter contractor from the Plano area. Plano Gutter Pros forwards your request and is not part of the job after that. The company name on the quote, the crew and the insurance belong to the contractor.

Does it cost anything to use the site?

No. You pay the contractor for work you agree to. The contractor may pay the site a referral fee.

Why does the form ask whether I want cleaning or new gutters?

Because they are different jobs. A cleaning is a short visit priced by the house. New gutters are measured, formed and installed, and priced by the foot. Saying which one you need gets the right company to call you.

Five-inch or six-inch gutters?

Five-inch K-style is the common residential size. Six-inch holds more and is paired with larger downspouts; contractors suggest it under big or steep roof sections and where an upper roof drains onto a lower one. The contractor measuring your roof should explain the choice in the quote.

Are seamless gutters worth it over sectional ones?

Seamless gutters are formed on site in one piece per run, so the only joints are at corners and end caps. Fewer joints means fewer places to leak. Published prices are higher per foot than for sectional gutter; see the cost page.

How often should gutters be cleaned in Plano?

It depends on the trees over the roof. Live oaks drop leaves in spring and acorns in fall; other oaks, pecans and elms drop in fall. A house under mature trees may need two visits a year, a house with open sky much less. Check after the spring leaf drop and before the October rains.

Will gutters protect my foundation?

Gutters and long downspouts control where roof water goes, and engineers who write about clay soils recommend them as part of foundation maintenance. They are one factor among several. This site does not promise any result for a foundation.

My house has gutters only over the doors. Is that normal?

Some houses were built that way and nobody ever finished the job. The fix is routine: measure the bare eaves, check the fascia, and add runs and downspouts. See adding gutters to bare eaves.

Do gutter contractors need a license in Texas?

This site could not confirm any Texas state license specific to gutter installation and does not describe contractors as holding one. Ask for a certificate of general liability insurance and a written warranty instead.

Does my HOA get a say?

If your deed restrictions cover exterior changes, yes. Ask before work starts. The rules page has a list of questions for the architectural committee.

Can I just add longer extensions myself?

A hinged or roll-out extension on an existing downspout is a simple thing to try, and it will show you in the next rain whether moving the water helps. A buried line needs slope, an outlet and a call to 811 before digging.

Which places are covered?

All of Plano, plus Richardson and Allen. Requests from Murphy, Parker and the Plano side of Carrollton are passed along when a contractor is available.

A Question That Is Not Here

Ask it on the phone. If it is about a particular roof edge, somebody will need to look at it anyway.
